Math Competition

Put your math skills to the test and kick off the competition season with MEK!

The MEK Fall Math Competition features a collection of challenging, high-level math problems created by the talented students in MEK’s MAPC (Math Competition) program.

Designed for students in Grades 5–8, this competition is a great opportunity to challenge yourself, sharpen your problem-solving skills, and prepare for AMC 8 and the national spring math competition season.

MEK Math Competition Features:

  • Open to students in Grades 5–8

  • Three in-person competition sessions at MEK Englewood Cliffs

  • 45-minute competition each Saturday

  • Features challenging, high-level problems created by MEK MAPC students

  • Designed to build the skills and problem-solving strategies needed for AMC 8 and other national math competitions

  • Three winners from each grade — 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th

  • Winners receive FREE entry to the official AMC 8, Math Kangaroo, and MathCON competitions

  • All participants receive 10% off MEK’s MAPC Jr. or Rookie program

American Mathematics Competition

The American Mathematics Competition is a great opportunity for students to explore their passions in math and expose themselves to rigorous question types. The AMC is one of the most important math competitions for middle school and high school students in the United States, and we're excited to be offering the opportunity to take the official AMC exams at our MEK Closter Campus!

Competitors who excel in the AMC 10 and 12 may be eligible to take the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) or the USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO).

AMC at MEK

  • MEK is an official testing center for the AMC and proudly offers all levels: AMC (8/10/12)

  • Our MAPC Competition Math classes prepare you for the exact type of problems on the test, and give you the mental fitness to tackle them in a high-pressure environment.

For students in middle school interested in the AMC, MAPC is the course for you! We offer AMC prep for all levels.

*Our AMC 8 testing window is January 21–27, 2027. Students may schedule their exam on any day during this period; however, we encourage all MEK students to take the AMC 8 on January 21st.

Math Kangaroo

A more recent addition to the MEK roster of Math Competitions, Math Kangaroo, has proved to be a quick favorite among our students!

Math Kangaroo Features

  • Yearly math competitions

  • Grades 1 – 12 can participate

  • Grades 5 – 12 take a 75-minute multiple choice exam, consisting of 30 questions

  • Grades 1 – 4  take a shorter exam, consisting of 24 questions in the same 75 minutes

  • Grades 1 and 2 take the same test together, as do grades 3+4, 5 +6, and 7+8

  • Exam date is TBA

  • Participants eligible to receive various prizes, ranging from ribbons & medals to college grants for seniors (if they have participated yearly and achieved consistent high rankings)

CML

Continental Math

League

The Continental Math League was one of the very first competitions offered at MEK, and it has been one of our favorites ever since we started at the beginning of the decade. 

CML Features

  • Competitions offered through monthly meets (first Thursday of each month)

  • A 6-question quiz that takes 30 minutes to complete

  • Rookie and Junior-level classes

As an MEK math team, we will receive 5 certificates and 2 medals to distribute to the highest performing students throughout the CML meets. If the MEK math team does well enough, we will also receive Regional or National awards to recognize our team’s performance!
Continental Math League consists of monthly meets. Participate in up to 5 meets!

Mathcon

MathCON is a two-round math competition that allows students from 4th to 12th grade to participate.

MathCON Features:

  • Round 1, 50-minute (grade appropriate) online test with problems types including: Algebra, Combinatorics, Geometry, and Number Theory

  • MEK-registered students receive 16 weekly practice tests on the MathCON portal, through competition date

  • MEK offers three test sessions -Tentative (1/14, 2/18, 3/11)

  • Top students (4th – 12th grade) will qualify for MathCON Finals, held in Chicago on May 2027

Students who participate in all 5 meets will be considered for CML State and National Awards.

This above-selected time frame will apply for all selected meets. Each meet will be 45 minutes long.

The top 628 students (4th – 12th grade) will qualify for MathCON Finals, held in Chicago on May 29th 2027
