Central NJ Magnet School Admissions Do Not Work the Way Most Families Expect.

There is no universal passing score or threshold that guarantees admission. Rather, these are seat-competitive exams, where students compete directly against one another for a fixed number of openings.

MCVSD:

Roughly 70 to 80 seats per academy across 5 specialized high schools. Over 1,600 applicants compete systemwide.

UCVTS:

Approximately 450 to 500 spots across six academies. Around 1,250 applicants per cycle.

MCMS:

My child earns excellent grades. Is exam prep necessary?

GPA counts for 30 points in the MCVSD and UCVTS scoring rubrics. The entrance exam counts for 70. School performance is an important foundation, but it does not prepare students for the specific question formats, time pressure, and competitive dynamics of these exams.

Are the MCVSD, UCVTS, and MCMS exams the same?

MCVSD and UCVTS are quite similar in structure and scope. MCMS varies slightly and includes an essay and interview. This program covers all three.

Is this program online or in-person?
